Is a chemical peel right for you?
Have you ever felt like your complexion looked dull and lifeless? Rough and uneven in color and texture? If so, a chemical peel may be just the treatment for you. Chemical peels can help reveal a healthier, youthful skin. With chemical peels you can improve fine lines, brown spots, acne and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by breakouts.
Chemical peels work by loosen the outer layer of dead skin or the epidermis. There are different levels of peels from superficial peels that will give you a light flaking of the skin to medium and deep peels that can peel the skin for up to 5 days.
For first time peel patients the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a great superficial peel. Immediately you will experience tighter, smoother, clearer skin. There is little to no downtime with a superficial peel. You usually experience a slight sloughing of the skin for a few days. These peels are often done in a series of three –four to reach optimum correction goals. You can do these peels every 4-6 weeks.
After care or home care when doing a chemical peel is extremely important. Your sunscreen protection is a must. We prefer using zinc mineral sunscreens that are physical blocks. To maintain the results from your peel, prescription products are used. Retin a is topical vitamin a that is prescribed to keep the cells turning over and stimulate collagen. We also prescribe Obagi Clear and Blender that are skin lighteners that will maintain the color and ensure that the brown spots or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation will not return.
Chemical peels can rejuvenate your skin and correct conditions such as acne and sun damage. A complimentary consult with your skin care professional will help you determine if a peel is right for you.
