The “Root Cause” of Female pattern hair loss.

Posted on 04. Mar, 2015 by in Gray Hair, Skin Conditions, Various

Female pattern hair loss is a genetically linked form of hair loss.  It can be passed on by either parent.  The process of hair loss is gradual, usually after menopause but can begin as early as puberty.  Approximately 40% of women exhibit signs of hair loss by the time they are in the 5th decade of life; less than half of all women reach the age of 80 with a full head of hair. We shed 100-125 strands of hair daily and those are replaced by new hair.  In female pattern hair loss, this loss may exceed 125 strands daily with no new re-growth.  The typical pattern is top and sides of head.
