Should You Put a Steak on a Black Eye?

We’ve all heard that a steak is a good thing to put on a “black eye”. In fact, it seemed like it was the favorite black eye remedy of the Three Stooges. What is the purpose of putting a steak on a “black eye” and is it the best thing?
Really there is no magical remedy powers in a nice steak. The basic principal is the fact steaks are usually cold and can act as a cold compress. Of course, ice isn’t as dramatic as a carefully placed rib-eye steak, but it does the same job and is a lot less expensive.
Personally, I’d rather put a steak on the grill.
