Longer Lashes are Here with Latisse

Latisse Before & After Photo

Many of my patients have been hoping for a product that can make long, thick, darker lashes.   Allergan (the drug maker that brought Botox to the market) has created Latisse, a new product that everyone is talking about.

Latisse was first approved by the FDA in 2001 for lowering intraocular pressure for people with glaucoma.  (It is interesting to note that Botox was also originally approved for treating an eye disorder.) One of the side effects noticed by glaucoma patients were longer and fuller eyelashes.  So, Allergan conducted another clinical trial to study the product’s aesthetic affect on eyelashes.

Study results showed the eyelashes of patients that were treated with Latisse typically grew 25% longer, 106% thicker and 18% darker. A small amount of patients (3.6%) experienced eye itching and red eyes. These results were presented to and reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration, which approved the drug in late December, 2008.

Latisse is a solution that is applied once daily to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. You can expect to see longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks. To maintain desired results, continued treatment with Latisse is required. Therefore, if you discontinue using Latisse, your eyelashes will gradually return to where they were before you started using the product.

This is a great option for those who desire longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes. Learn more by visiting my web-site at www.abramsderm.com or by visiting www.latisse.com

I really hope ladies take some caution if they decide to use this product… in my opinion, the pros out weigh the cons. Side effects are dark circles, change in the color of your iris, red/itchy eyes… hmm, I would think that out weighs having more eyelashes. Not to mention, why go through the hassle of a prescription DRUG. I have been using a cosmetic called Revitalash for a while now and it does what latisse claims to do and i don’t need to worry!

Revitalash works well for many people. Reviatalash’s new formulation has a different ingredient than bimatoprost, but it is still a prostaglandin-related analog that has the same side effect of growing hair. Revitalash also cautions that discoloration of the eyelids may occur.

Latisse is FDA approved for growing lashes. Revitalash is not FDA approved. However, if Revitalash is working for you and you are pleased with the results continue using the product.

I have been using Latisse for the past 3 weeks and I am already starting to see beautiful results. It is really exciting! I got an off-label prescription for Lumigan and I apply it with an eyeliner brush that is only used for that purpose. I apply it each night and I am so thrilled with the results that I ordered another 4 bottles of Lumigan from the pharmacy so that I don’t run out.

I think it’s silly that someone with zero experience made snarky comments about using bimatoprost/prostaglandin analogues for lash growth, but the truth is that this product is very safe when used in the proper manner. I am thrilled with my investment so far, and if the results are this great after 3 weeks I am really excited to see FULL results after 16 weeks.

I have had good success with Latisse so far. It is the same drug that has been used for years to treat glaucoma. That’s where they came up with the idea. The advantage of Latisse over extension is that it is your real lashes. Since this product is new it will be interesting to see how often application is needed once the full effect has occurred. One of my concerns with latisse was pricing. There is a great physician reviewed and managed site that dispenses latisse online. The price is great at $89/bottle. I heard they are one of the top retailers in the country…worth a try – I have loved them
